so, in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past 6 months, the royal wedding of prince william and now-princess catherine was this morning in london’s westminster abbey. the alexander mcqueen dress, the trees in the church, the extreme hats- i’m sure you’ve heard of it all by now. but beyond all of that, my favorite part of the wedding by far was watching kate and her sister pippa.
they’re both beautiful, that’s obvious. and they look so much alike that i bet they probably get mistaken for twins, like me and my sister do all the time. but i so enjoyed watching them together; it’s so clear that they love each other, and that there’s a bond between them that only sisters ever have. pippa (which i read is short for philippa) looked so happy for her sister, and so honored to be a part of her wedding. it makes me happy to know that kate will have that kind of support as she moves into her new life as a princess, and at the same time it makes me sad for other sisters who don’t have that same bond. there’s no one quite like a sister.

i stumbled across the artist walton ford purely by chance yesterday when i was trying to find a copy of john james audubon‘s birds of america (it was his 226th birthday yesterday, by the way). ford is a modern artist who paints in the tradition of audubon and other great botanical artists, but with a flair very much his own. personally, i think his art is vivid, vital, sometimes violent, and always thought-provoking. opening his beautiful book pancha tantra is like opening a box of jewels. enjoy!

unless i’m going out, my earring choices are usually pretty understated. you can’t get much more basic than pearl studs, let me tell you. however, i’m coming to realize the power of a pair of well-chosen earrings.

i’m not usually one to choose a hoop earring, but these feathers keep drawing me back. pair with a messy ponytail or chic chignon.

i love margaritas. there. i said it. however, as i’ve gotten a little older, i’ve learned a thing or two about margaritas. clear tequila is the key, for one. also, on the rocks is the ONLY way to go. but most importantly, a marg made with fresh ingredients is hard to beat. this is one of my favs.
ingredients (to make 1 drink):
juice of 1.5 limes
0.5 tsp triple sec
2 tbs. tequila
1 tsp. simple syrup (heat 1 cup sugar + 1 cup water until sugar is dissolved. let cool.)
salt (optional, but it really makes it taste better i promise)
mix together simple syrup, lime juice, tequila, and triple sec in a glass rimmed with salt. add ice and fill to the top with club soda. enjoy!
